"So, where's the lab?" Matt asked Peter as soon as he came through the door. He had his shoes in his hand, his socks in his shoes, and his pant cuffs were rolled up to his knees.
"Oh, I found a nice little spot at the top of a hill near a beach," he replied. "Come on, I'll show you all."
Everyone took the small things they had brought into the cabin, straightened up the room, and followed Peter to the van. He got in behind the wheel and drove them to a quiet part of the town.
Taking small trails, he brought them up into the hills, and stopped on a knoll next to the lab trailers. They all got out and admired the beauty of the place. The sand and the ocean met in harmony, waves splashing calmly against the banks. The knoll of the hill was thirty feet above the beach, overlooking rock formations and children's sandcastles long destroyed by the high tide. There were wooden steps leading down to the beach, which had been open to the public before the snakes had fallen from the sky. It was peaceful, serene. Everyone immediately fell in love with the beautiful place, and no one made any objections to their location.
"Peter, I never thought you would have been able to find such a place," Lindsay said in awe.
"I've been here before, a couple of years ago," he replied, opening the trunk of the van and getting everyone's bags out. They took their stuff into the lab, putting them into the bunkroom for later. They were to stay in the lab and watch the ocean for signs of the snakes again, because this was where a lot of witnesses had been when the snakes had rained from a cloudless sky.
Everyone gathered in the conference room for a briefing. Everyone sat in their usual seats and listened to their Case Manager.
"We'll be staring preliminary interviews. Pete, I want you to go with Lindsay and tape them. Anton, stick around there and see if you can detect any sign of a brainwashing or anything like that in the witnesses."
Everyone but Matt got up and left the room. They all milled around in the background, packing their equipment. They eventually all left for the small town nearby.
